Newbury Street

The Newbury Guest House is located on the most popular walking street in Boston. Newbury Street is renowned for its cosmopolitan flair - the charming eight block long street is located in the Back Bay area of the city, arguably Bostons most elegant neighborhoods.

Along Newbury's tree lined boulevard, these former Victorian residences have been converted into local merchant galleries, restaurants and designer boutiques as well as international shopping stores. Boasting the location of the greatest number of art galleries in the city, Newbury Street preserves the history and culture of the past. From early spring to late fall, people watching is the number one pastime here. The Newbury Guest House is also a short walking distance to a dozen or more restaurants, several historical sites and access to major public transportation. For a complete listing of the attractions in the area visit the Newbury Street League website.

Back Bay & Environs

Back Bay is a registered National Historic District developed in the latter part of the 19th century providing residences for the gentry of that period. A few homes of historically famous are still preserved. The Back Bay area is circumscribed by the Charles River to the North, the Boston Gardens by the East, high rise commercial and office buildings and hotels to the South, and Massachusetts Avenue on the West. The streets in the area are lined with four or five story 19th century town houses once occupied by the gentry of Boston. Today, these 19th century town houses for the most part, have been recycled and converted to pricy condominium complexes. The area also includes Copley Square, home of the Boston Library, The architecturally famous Trinity Church, and I M Pei's John Hancock all glass high rise. The major street in the area is Commonwealth Avenue with its tree-lined mall fashioned after the famous boulevards of Paris.
